What is a computer virus?

A computer virus is a malicious software that can damage your computer. They are the equivalent of diseases, they make your computer ill and can spread to other computers. Eventually if you do not get rid of them they can stop your computer from working properly.

How do I know I have a computer virus?

Well, just like when you start showing symptoms when you get ill, so do computers. They start running slow and doing various strange things depending on what sort of virus your computer has caught. But don’t be alarmed, viruses aren’t the only causes for your computer getting slow. One of the ways to be sure is to run a scan with an anti-virus software, but not all of them will find the virus, it all depends on how good the software is and if it’s up to date.

You might be feeling a little worried now but with my advice your computer will be less likely to catch a virus.

How do I protect myself from getting a computer virus?

  • Use an Anti-virus software, scan your computer regularly and always keep it up to date.
  • Update your computers operating system and any other software regularly.
  • Don’t click on links or go to websites that seem strange or you’re unsure about.
  • Only download from trusted websites
  • Don’t open emails or click on links from unknown senders
  • Use a firewall

Well there are many anti-virus software’s out there that claim to be the best at their job, some are free and some you have to pay for. From my research and experience, I would advise you on getting Avira for 3 reasons, it has one of the highest detection rating, there is a free version, and now a 1 year subscription of the premium version is free in exchange for some of your details.
