Social networking websites are becoming increasing popular for scammers and hackers to find vulnerable targets. These sites are increasingly being used for scams and spreading malware, it is often too easy to create an account and find targets. Even if you are to receive a message from someone you know, you should still be cautious as scammers/hackers get into peoples accounts and send fake links to people on the accounts friends list. These links normally direct you to malware which automatically gets installed onto your computer without you noticing.

You should:

  • Look out for strange looking links or short links which are used to mask the original link
  • Always try to confirm the sender is the actual sender and not an imposter
  • Look out for suspicious behaviour
  • Never give out sensitive information such as passwords or bank details
  • Change privacy settings to the most tightest
